Making Waves for Bayanihan Linux Thin Client Manager

Bayanihan Linux Thin Client Manager, the main deliverable of the “Commercialization of Bayanihan Linux Terminal Server Installer: An Open Source Thin Client Implementation Project”, was recently launched through roadshows to promote awareness. Cebu was chosen as the ICT hub for Visayas while Davao as the counterpart for Mindanao. The project is funded by the Technological Innovation Commercialization Program (TECHNICOM) of Department of Science and Technology.

Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 7 and Central Visayas Network Foundation, conducted a comprehensive 4-day Bayanihan Linux Thin Client training at the University of San Carlos from February 1, 2005 to February 4, 2005. The huge turnout of participants who were very responsive came from industries, government agencies, and academe.

Likewise, another set of training was conducted at Davao City from February 10, 2005 to February 12, 2005 in cooperation with DabaweGNU, Inc. , a Davao based non-stock non-profit organization geared towards the promotion of Open Source technologies.

BLTCM is an Open source thin client solution with server-based management features for simpler installation/configuration and administration. The project was established with a vision to catalyze the use of Linux thin-client computing in public and private organizations. Also, to maximize computing resources by converting old machines into diskless client computers, enabling organizations to pursue computerization efforts with minimal expenses. It is a true Filipino initiative to information liberalization. This will surely benefit the following target markets: government (at all levels), academe (schools, universities, and colleges), small and medium enterprises (SMEs), not-for-profits (NFPs)/non-governmental organizations (NGOs), libraries, and own equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The project team is willing to provide training, consultancy, and technology transfer to individuals and organizations who are willing to harness the benefits of Open Source and thin client technologies particularly the Bayanihan Linux Thin Client Manager – your complete Linux thin-client solution.
